LYRICAL dance
at Topaz Dancentre
Lyrical dance is a style that pulls inspiration from the techniques learned in jazz ,ballet and contemporary dance styles. Using and communicating the lyrics from the music allows the dancer to express strong emotions through their bodies.
A more recent addition to our timetable, it has quickly become a popular dance style for children and adults alike, who are looking to expand their dancing style beyond the strict technical requirements of the more formal dance practices.
Lyrical is notable for its beautiful and expressive choreography; is a pleasure to watch and even more enjoyable to perform! Every lyrical piece is full of a range of emotions, taking both the performer and spectators on a journey both literal and emotional. The dancer performs the moves as though telling a story, much like the lyrics of a song; this can be an emotive experience of self discovery and self reflection for performer and audience alike.
Teachers of Lyrical dance choose music with meaningful, powerful, or touching lyrics. Using the Lyrics, in combination with the melody and tempo of the music, they choreograph a unique dance routine, designed to clearly convey the literal and metaphorical meanings of the song.

Lyrical classes are available for most ages; our Junior Lyrical is suitable from age 6, and we offer classes right through to adult learners.
Whilst not compulsory, we do believe that Lyrical dance students benefit from the experience of attending a class, such as ballet or modern dance, where they can develop their technical dance skills and therefore can focus upon and enhance their expressive work during Lyrical classes and performances.
